Geared primarily to senior citizens, the Geranimo project aims to market a new functional ingredient (to be used in functional foods or in the form of food supplements). It will endeavour to reduce sarcopenia (muscle loss) while complying with the current legislation in force, including Directive 2002/46/EC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to food supplements  and Regulation (EC) 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods. The attainment of this objective is based on three lines of approach: the production of the specific functional ingredient, the verification of health claims and the filing of several patents.
