The purpose of the Barcelona project is to develop reagents (enzymes) and techniques (milling, enzymatic hydrolysis sequences and separations) that can be used to recover all wheat bran compounds by ecological means. The main aim is to recover all the hemicellulose, lignin, cellulose and, secondarily, residual proteins. Barcelona also aims to explore the best presentation of isolated components so that they can be recovered optimally in the food sector (hemicellulose, cellulose and proteins) and in the plastics processing of composite materials (micro or nanocrystalline cellulose).
