As the average age is growing rapidly, the healthy ageing of the population is emerging as an essential factor for the economic development of countries. It is important to develop nutritional strategies to promote intestinal health and keep senior citizens healthy. The overall objective of the NutriGUTior project is to assess the efficacy of industrial compounds in intervention studies using state-of-the-art technologies and to characterize changes in the intestinal function in original mouse models (genetic model of premature aging). The innovation of this project lies in developing and/or optimizing ingredients, finished products or food supplements for a favourable adjustment of the gastrointestinal function and/or the intestinal microbiota of senior citizens, thereby contributing to the overall health of senior citizens.
