Belgian oilseed flax sector based on regenerative agriculture
The BelgOléo project aims to develop a Belgian oilseed flax sector based on regenerative agriculture, initiated by a collaboration between Vandeputte, an expert in flax processing, and CultivAé, an innovative agricultural cooperative.
This initiative addresses three key issues: public health, environmental sustainability, and food sovereignty. The project plans to utilize the entire flaxseed to offer a range of products, including seeds, oil, and omega-3-enriched eggs, as well as innovative foods such as healthy breads rich in fiber and protein, with the aim of improving citizens’ health.
By integrating sustainable agricultural practices and innovative processing methods, this sector is helping to reduce the carbon footprint while enhancing soil biodiversity. Support for local farmers not only helps reduce dependence on imports, but also boosts the rural economy by ensuring fair remuneration for their production. This project is part of a sustainable food sector dynamic and echoes the success of CultivAé in structuring the local malting barley sector, thus promoting a pioneering approach to promoting Belgian agricultural production.
