The Fertiwalim project focuses on the fertility of the two predominant cattle breeds in Wallonia, namely the Belgian Blue-White (BBB) for meat production and Holstein for milk production. The aim is twofold, namely to improve the fertility of Walloon cattle by developing specific feeds for the breeds studied as well as the production technology of an insemination centre. The main deliverables targeted are to implement a new range of feeds, adapted to breeders and with high added value, and to improve bull fertility associated with improved technological competitiveness. This would enable the company to increase the production of insemination doses in BBB breeds so as to meet the growing market demand, especially on an international scale.
